Maverick update

Amid a lot of irritating nuisances yesterday there came a surprise bit of goodness:

Ford sent an e-mail telling me that my long-awaited Maverick pickup truck is now scheduled to be built in April. That will be eight months since I ordered it and put down my deposit.

I continue to be amused by "criticisms" from various sources. Consumer Reports listed four things they didn't like about the Maverick. One was that "it doesn't sound like a truck." Idiots.

It's a hybrid vehicle. Yes, they don't sound like a dinosaur farting. Or smell like one for that matter. They DO, however reduce carbon emissions and fossil fuel consumption, both of which characteristics I happen to like very much.

I can use a little humor. The season of mud is upon us, definitely not my favorite time.

I wanted a Toyota Prius myself a few months into my return to the workforce back in 2019 (since I was a CSR for Toyota at my local call center, and it would sort of make sense), but since my family is into Hondas I had to settle for a Fit, which gets decent mileage but definitely doesn't excel in that particular area.

Yep. I'm currently driving a 2016 Fusion that I picked out in a hurry after ordering the Mav. My old Escape was so badly rusted they said it was unsafe to drive. The Fusion is OK on mileage, 27 or 28 mpg, but that doesn't stand up to the 42 mpg EPA rating of the Maverick. Also I'm really too tall for the thing.

I would like a large serving of mud. That would mean we had gotten some precipitation.

Probably not until mid or late May even if they live up to their schedule. Factory is in Mexico and it will be shipped by rail to Illinois. But I'm sure I can make some comments once it is here.
